Senate Greenlights Bill to Disclose Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will require the publication of investigative files associated with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a near-unanimous vote in the lower house and a shift by the president and his Republican allies. The White House changed course after an extended period of trying to block the cross-party initiative involving a case that has dogged the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, expediting the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a massive majority.

The public have waited long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have suffered long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before asking the chamber to approve it without opposition. “Uncover the facts. Ensure full disclosure.”

Next Steps

The measure next heads to Trump for his signature. Trump stated on Monday that he would sign the measure.

Even though Trump has for months rejected the outcry over the government’s handling of the scandal as a “false narrative”, he expressed his backing for the legislation over the past few days, and stated he would approve it if it is presented to him.

Response

The Democratic party, along with victims and their supporters who were present in a viewing area, cheered after the bill was enacted. The only opposition came from a Louisiana Republican, who expressed concern he was concerned the measure would disclose specific data of people, those under scrutiny and others implicated in the investigation.
