Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extended matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total over 50 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
